Friday night pizza

Every Friday night traditionally has become pizza night in our household. I have taken to making it homemade. The kids love to help, which of course takes a great deal of patience but also builds everlasting memories and that’s what it’s all about right?

I have found over the course of years of doing this, that it is so much cheaper than buying them of course as is the case with many meals. Also, I can control what toppings I put on the pizzas. This also includes the children having a hefty helping of cheese as they are “helping”.

I start with warm water, yeast and sugar mixed together and let them sit about five minutes or so until it starts to bubble.

Then add in garlic salt, powdered milk (which conditions the dough, making it much easier to work with), honey and stir in flour. I keep mixing in the flour until the dough is a nice consistency and won’t stick to your fingers.

Ingredients:

2C lukewarm water

1 pkg yeast

1 tsp sugar

2 tbsp powdered milk

1 tbsp honey

1 tsp garlic salt

5C flour

Directions:

1. Mix warm water yeast and sugar together until frothy.

2. Add in salt, powdered milk and honey and stir.

3. Slowly add flour and stir until well  combined and dough didn’t sticky. Let sit covered 30 minutes.

4. Divide into two.

5. Roll into shape of pizza on floured surface and put on greased pizza pan.

6. Poke holes with fork on surface. Bake at 400 about 10 minutes.

7. Take out of oven and top with your favorite pizza sauce and toppings and bake an additional 10 minutes till cheese is melted.
